Snapchat is everyone’s app these days. We use it to connect with friends, share fun moments, and you guessed it: snaps.
Not everyone may fancy their username on Snapchat, and truth be told: there is not much to be done about it.
Snapchat’s excuse for not granting users the ability to edit their username is privacy and security.
Now that is understandable because if someone ever hijacks your account, then they can lock you out forever by changing your username.
That is bad!
It is not impossible to tweak a few details on your Snapchat though.
In this tutorial, we will find a way to get a new username on Snapchat, as well as edit the profile name on our account to what we want.
How to edit your profile name on Snapchat
Firstly, I will be showing you the steps to follow if you wish to change the name your Snap buddies see on your profile.
There are many reasons you may want to change the display name on your Snapchat account, and it is easy to effect the change.
Follow the steps below to get started.
1. Launch the Snapchat app on your phone
Open the Snapchat app on your iPhone or Android.
2. Open your profile screen
On the first screen, click on the Bitmoji icon at the top left corner to open your profile page.
3. Select the profile settings option
On your profile screen, click the gear or settings icon on the top right corner to open the profile settings page.
4. Edit your display name
The name field should be at the top of the screen. Edit the first and last name field to whatever you want.
NOTE: Whatever you input in the name field will be publicly displayed on your profile.
5. Save the change
Hit the save button when you are done to confirm the change.
How to change your Snapchat Username
I have to be realistic with you: there is no direct way to edit your Snapchat username.
However, you can get another username; but you may have to make certain sacrifices.
If you are willing to commit, then let’s begin.
Get a new Snapchat account
You can make a new account with the username you want (if it is available).
1. Open the Snapchat app
Log out of the Snapchat app on your Android or iOS device.
2. Sign-up for a new account
Click on the sign-up button.
3. Enter your details
Follow the prompts on the screen and fill in your details.
4. Make a new username
Create the username of your choice.
5. Set a Snapchat account password
Input a password, verify your email address and mobile number.
6. Log in to your new Snapchat account
Your account should be created with a new username.
Notify your friends about the change
Send a broadcast message to your Snap buddies informing them of your new account.
Also, send them your new username or snap code so they can add you, or you can write down their usernames and add them to your new account.
Just let them know you are going to be adding them to your new profile.
You cannot transfer any achievements, streaks or trophies from your old account to the new one.
So you can either keep your old account for the sake of records or try to replicate the streaks and scores with the new account.
It is up to you and what you prefer to do!
We hope Snapchat gives users the option to edit their username in the near future.
In the meantime, this tutorial should help you change your Snapchat username.
