How to Update Kodi on Android TV box

Updating Kodi is necessary to keep up with the latest features and improvements. Note: If you wish to do a fresh install, then read our tutorial on how to install Kodi on Android TV box.

However, if all you wish to do is an upgrade, then continue reading this tutorial to learn how you can update Kodi on Android box to the latest version.

Direct Update

You can install the latest version of Kodi directly from their official website.

1. Open the Kodi Website

The very first step is to open an internet browser on your Android TV, then input this URL: You will then be on the Kodi download page.

2. Download the Latest Version of Kodi

On the download page, scroll down the screen until you find the “choose your weapon” section. Tap on Android, then download the ARMV7A or ARMV8A version depending on whether your TV is 32 or 64 bit.

The download should begin afterwards.

3. Install Kodi on your Android TV

After the download is complete, close the web browser to head back to the home screen. Locate the app installer on the tile section, then launch it.

On your storage device, find the location of the Kodi file you downloaded earlier. Click on it once you find it.

Note: Installation of apps from unknown sources must be allowed, else the app update won’t be successful.

On the installation screen, tap on the install button at the bottom right of the screen to start updating Kodi.

The update should take some few minutes to complete. Once the upgrade is complete, launch Kodi and enjoy the latest version.

Update through PlayStore

You can update Kodi to the current version through the Google Play Store.

1. Launch the PlayStore App

On the home screen of your Android TV box, select and click on the App store tile to open it. Log in using your Google account when prompted.

2. Open the installed Apps repository

Locate the My apps option and click on it to reveal the complete list of apps on your device. Search for the Kodi app on the list and click on it.

3. Update Kodi

On the Kodi App screen, if the app is out of date, then you will see a button beside it that should prompt you to update it.

Click on that button and wait for a while for the upgrade to finish.

4. Relaunch Kodi

Once the update is successful, click on Open to launch it.

You can also close the Google Playstore app and relaunch Kodi from the home screen of your Android box.
